What is search engine optimization?
SEO involves optimizing and promoting your website across the Internet, aiming for a high ranking in the search engine results. Improving a website so that it conforms to search engine algorithms can give it a higher chance of being listed or being found at the top of the list (or on the first few pages of results).
When optimizing a website, you need to consider aspects such as the content, structure and page layout; the HTML meta-tags; and the submission process used (not all automatic submission services will be of benefit).

How do I get a high ranking?
As well as having a well optimised and well designed website here are some of the current factors that need to be considered to assist your website in obtaining better rankings:-
- The number of external links to your website
- Quality content & regular updates
- The addition of new web pages
- Submission to the manually checked search directories
- Using a relevant domain name
How long does it take?
Achieving a good search engine ranking isn't an instant process and it can generally take three to four months before optimization changes are visible in the search engine results.
No guarantees can be given as to where your site is going to be positioned once it has been optimized and indexed, but there are other ways to improve your visibility on the Internet, including paying for sponsored or 'pay per click' listings. This may be beneficial for eCommerce websites.
